Don’t let what goes down the drain enter the food chain

Did you know that plastic from your laundry often lands on your plate? It’s true. Research shows that on average, we all consume some 5 g – about the size of a credit card – of the stuff per week1. Here’s how it happens and what you can do to prevent it:

Lots of tiny coloured microplastic floating in water.

Microplastics, macro problem.

During a laundry cycle, friction from the washing action causes synthetic textiles to shed up to 700,000 tiny plastic microfibres2. After your machine drains, they’re emptied into rivers and, eventually, the ocean. In this way, microplastics contaminate our drinking water, food and even salt. When we consume those things, the plastic accumulates in our bodies.

Our solution to plastic pollution.

With the Bosch Microplastic Filter you can start a sea change, one wash at a time. It traps microfibres before they get into the water system and impact marine – and human – health.

Keep plastics – and our planet – out of deep water

When you buy a Bosch Microplastic Filter, you’ll not only trap up to 97% of microplastics3 but also prevent natural fibres, hair as well as detergent residues from polluting waterways. Hover over the product to discover how it works.

It just works. So you don’t have to

You’ll find that our Bosch Microplastic Filter is a tidy worker. The Active Self-Cleaning System rinses the mesh free of particles so you only have to empty the unit at most once every 6 weeks, or after a maximum of 20 cycles4.

More durability equals greater sustainability. It’s why our washing machines are built to last – and so is the Bosch Microplastic Filter. In fact, the filter has the same lifespan as a washing machine5.

Easy installation without fixation.

Who knew you could get attached so quickly? It’s true, you’ll love how easy it is to install the Bosch Microplastic Filter. Position it on top of your appliance, to the sides or just about anywhere nearby that’s 12 cm above ground level. And don’t worry, you won't have to use your electric drill.

No messing about

When it’s time to clean the plastic residue, you’ll get a cue. An LED light and acoustic alert ensure that even if your unit is installed out of sight, you won’t miss the memo. The emptying process is just as straightforward – scoop the filter contents directly into the bin. Just reach for the handy scraper in the lid to shift any stubborn bits.

More ways Bosch is microplastic-wise

Our filter isn’t the only way Bosch aims to prevent microplastics reaching bodies of water and your body. When paired with the Bosch Home Connect app, our smart washing machines can run the Less Microplastic programme. With fewer drum rotations and an increased water level in the appliance, this gentle wash reduces fabric abrasion and the shedding of microfibres by 30%6. While you can run this programme on its own, combining it with our filter is the best way to keep fibres in check.
