When you buy a Bosch Microplastic Filter, you’ll not only trap up to 97% of microplastics3 but also prevent natural fibres, hair as well as detergent residues from polluting waterways. Hover over the product to discover how it works.
Don’t let what goes down the drain enter the food chain
Did you know that plastic from your laundry often lands on your plate? It’s true. Research shows that on average, we all consume some 5g – about the size of a credit card – of the stuff per week1. Here’s how it happens and what you can do to prevent it:
Our solution to plastic pollution
With the Bosch Microplastic Filter you can start a sea change, one wash at a time. It traps microfibres before they get into the water system and impact marine – and human – health.
Microplastics, macro problem
During a laundry cycle, friction from the washing action causes synthetic textiles to shed up to 700,000 tiny plastic microfibres2. After your machine drains, they’re emptied into rivers and, eventually, the ocean. In this way, microplastics contaminate our drinking water, food and even salt. When we consume those things, the plastic accumulates in our bodies.
Keep plastics – and our planet – out of deep water

We’ve put together the the key facts and figures for you to view at a glance, here:
- Dimensions (length x width x height): 360 mm x 165 mm x 180 mm
- Full operating power: ≤ 35 W
- Noise level: 60db (A) during self-cleaning (10 sec x ~3-5 per cycle)
- Recyclable materials: 69% of the input materials are recyclable
When well maintained and regularly emptied, your filter is designed to last for the same lifespan – or number of laundry cycles – as our washing machines. No replacement cartridges are needed.
Since the filter comprises 69% recyclable materials, it can be used to create new products.
Connecting the Bosch Microplastic Filter to your washing machine is simple enough to do yourself. You don’t need screws, bolts or nails to fix it and can position it almost anywhere around your washing machine as long as it’s between 12 and 100cm above ground level.
The filter will work with any washing machine brand and can even be fitted to older appliances.

4 Number of washing cycles that the microplastic filter can hold filtered fibres before it needs to be emptied, determined by long-term tests with a standard household load.
5 Approximately 2,000 cycles, equivalent to the BSH definition of a lifetime.
